John David, better known as J.D., began his career as a disc jockey in the mid-seventies, during the disco era in Europe. He came to Texas from England in the early 80s. Although he visited New York for a while, he quickly decided he didn't belong there. "I love New York to party, but not to live," he said. "It's very relaxed here in Texas." So J.D. Arnold has made Houston his home base for living, working and partying!

The crowd's response and the adrenaline rush are two things Arnold likes most about being a DJ. He controls a crowd's frenzy as so few DJ's are capable of doing. JD puts it this way: "To get a great response from the crowd is amazing!"

For about ten years, he has been a Billboard DJ, and has worked at many clubs around town, including Numbers, Shock, and Power Tools. He hosted a radio show on Kiss 98.5 for two years, followed by a 2 year stint at KRTX 100.7 which has recently been discontinued due to a change in format at the station. Thursdays and Saturdays he spins at Rich's-Houston, located at 2401 San Jacinto. JD says his music at Rich's on Thursday night is based on the New York house scene and the music on Saturday night is more "Circuit".

In addition to pumping out great music every weekend for Houston clubbers, JD focuses on working on remixes with his creative partner, Kat Jones. JD and Kat have been working together for about five years now. Remixes have been completed for Blondie, Olive, and others.

In keeping up with the music scene around the globe, JD travels across the US and Europe each year as well as attending annual music conferences to check out what other DJs are doing. Clearly Amsterdam is his favorite city: "…I love the people there and the atmosphere." Arnold, who has been a DJ at clubs in Holland, England and Germany, said the biggest difference in Europe and the United States is the mixture of young and older people who go to the clubs and listen to house music. "In Europe, you see people of all ages, from 18 to 45 - it's not all 18 year olds……."

Aside from his music and mixing talents, JD pursues his alternate career, one of a Certified/Professional Massage Therapist. "Its my balance and an opposite to the crazy world of night life." Being a notorious, cutting edge DJ and an ambitious musician has led him to achieve one important goal, among many others…………

"I believe a DJ can educate his crowd and I have done that over the years."
